Earlier this month, a Japanese man launched a campaign to allow him to marry a manga character, Mikuru Asahina from the manga Haruhi Suzumiya.
Taichi Takashita posted on his website:
もはや、僕たちは三次元には興味がありません。
We are no longer interested in the three-dimensional world
As of now, his petition site has 172,026 signatures.
This just goes to show how the Japanese have this increasing compulsion to try to escape reality.

I heard about this one myself. Odd indeed. I can only imagine the uproar from the Fanatical Anime Hordes over who has the right to marry what Manga character or worse..whom the Manga character loves more…
